Pete Alex, Erie sport fishing Association-Update on the Brown Trout stocking

·        The Club asked for replacing Brown trout for the Coho salmon since the Coho were discontinued by the PAFBC due to poor returns and problems in brood stock replenishment.

·        100,000 fish are allocated by the 3CU/WCC

·        Needed agreement from the GLFCommittee –approved the stocking of 100,000-150,000 fish per year. Stipulation the fish need to come from a disease free strain, procured @100,000 fertilized fish eggs from NY Salmon River Hatchery to provide a strain for brood stock witch will be harvested for future stockings(similar to the Steelhead Program)

·        3cu-received @32,000 eggs witch are doing well with low mortality

·        WCC-received @10-11,000

·        Hope to have a Brood Stock in 4 years

·        So there is at least a 4 year commitment from the FC to this new program.

·        Linesville hatchery will be where this program will raise @60,000 fish.

v     Bob Hetz-10,000 fish were the most ever stocked in 1990’s witch usually gave a 3-4,000 fish return. When released the fish will be 8-10 so survival should be good.
