The Big Run Banquet 2008
BIG RUN BANQUET UPDATE
We are pleased to announce that the Big Run Banquet for 2008 will be held once again in Harbor Creek Township at
the beautiful Shades Beach Pavilion on Saturday, October 11th, 2008 from 12:00 noon
until 6:00 PM. Please plan on joining your fellow members us for a fantastic
fall afternoon of demonstrations, fundraising events including contests and raffles, and a great fall banquet! Tickets
for this years event are $10.00 each and will be sent to each member, will be available at our next meeting, and posted for
sale in local sporting goods stores and our other sponsoring vendors. The CAB will be catering this years event and
we will all be looking forward to a great meal and day of fun and fellowship.
This year’s
event will feature product demonstrations including “Fish Hands Free”, a device invented by Dave Walko, a local
fisherman with a great idea. Dave has graciously pledged a generous contribution to our fundraiser based on his sales
the day of the event, so be sure to check out his simple and slick device, and buy one or two. They make great Christmas
Presents!
We are pleased to welcome John Nagy, author of Steelhead
Guide, Fly Fishing Techniques and Strategies for Lake Erie Steelhead. He will be at the Big run Banquet selling
and signing the fourth edition of his book which was just released this year. John has generously donated a signed leather
bound copy of this new volume to be auctioned at our fundraiser. I am sure you, like I, will be looking forward
to meeting John and discussing many of the great tips in his book.
Once again I
remind you that an event like this does not happen by itself. We need your help to reach out fundraising goal.
From purchasing tickets to raising donations, or volunteering to help with your participation is vital!
So what sort of things do you need donations for?

To Whom It May Concern:
Whether
you’re a weekend fisherman, or an avid angler; you know and enjoy the ripples in the water, the rod bent and a screamin’
reel as you hook into the “BIG ONE.” This is the dream that we share for all anglers!
The Pennsylvania Steelhead Association is a non-profit
organization founded in 1996 and has made it their goal to keep access to Lake Erie and its tributary streams open and fishable.
Our mission is to educate, protect, preserve, and enhance the Lake Erie cold-water fisheries. In an effort to meet these goals
we work in cooperation with landowners, the PA Fish and Boat Commission, Legislators, and other fishing associations. The
Association also sponsors many projects and activities such as:
- Stream and hatchery cleanup, remediation, and Enhancement projects
- Hands on fishing seminars for disadvantaged youths, Scout Troops, and Schools.
- Sponsor Scholarships for students involved in the study of the Lake Erie Fishery.
- Provide empowering opportunities for women and children at risk.
- Initiate meetings with officials to discuss landowner and angler
concerns.
- Instrumental in passing laws that protect our
natural resources.
- Work in cooperation with the S.O.N.S.
of Lake Erie, 3CU Trout Association, and other organizations.
- Post
signs along tributaries to help prevent litter and protect landowner rights.
As a
non-profit organization we count on our membership and community support to continue these projects and activities.
On Saturday, October 11, 2008 in conjunction with our membership drive, we will be holding our fall fundraiser the
Big Run Banquet. In addition to an excellent pig roast with all the fixings, the event features door prizes, several fishing demonstrations,
contests, raffles, and a Chinese auction. In addition to the 400+ invited members and guests, this event is
open to the public and draws anglers from all over the Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania area.
We
Need Your Support! – From event sponsorship, to merchandise for door and
raffle prizes, your contribution/donation to this event provides excellent
promotional opportunities, and helps PSA the with the projects and activities that we sponsor.
We appreciate your contribution and also invite you
to join our efforts by becoming a business member. If you have any questions, please contact us at psa@pasteelhead.org.
Sincerely,
Glenn Mills
